The Cat's Meow

A year ago I came up with this concept for a trilogy. The first book in the series was The Cat's Meow. Kind of chick lit. Kind of romance. Kind of fantasy. I thought it was a delightful idea. Unfortunately, I was the only person who liked it. One agent said it was definitely the oddest thing she'd read all year, so it has that going for it. I've posted the first chapter on Smashwords, where you can read it for free. Leave a review or rating if you like. Or if you hate. At this point, the first book is half done. I stopped when I started racking up negative feedback.

  1. i know it's silly, goofy fluff, but i still kind of like it. i've been immersed in dark, depressing nonfiction, and i needed something that was the total opposite.

  3. thanks, kelly! someone said the POV was confusing, so now i wonder about changing cat's POV to first person. I wrote it that way to begin with, then switched to third. half the book is written in owner's POV, so that would remain third person. it would probably be okay to switch the cat, and i guess it doesn't matter anymore, since i'm not trying to sell it to a publisher! i thought all third person would appeal more to a publisher, but i think i had bigger things to worry about. :D

  4. did a quick edit, and it reads a million times better in first person. i have to thank Bud from Savannah for pointing out the POV awkwardness. So now I'm 275 in the Smashwords queue. heh! at this rate, the new version probably won't load until tonight. :O

  5. I like the cat first person approach. It speaks to the way cat owners (guilty here) anthropomorphize their cats.

  6. likari,
yes, i def prefer the first person. if the cat has a POV, why not go all the way? I thought it might be jarring to mix with owner's third person, but that's the way it's going to be. :D
